Name: Rachel
Subject: History
University: University of York
College: Goodricke 2014, Alcuin 2016
Other Universities applied for: University of Edinburgh (Rejected), Durham University (Rejected), University of Sheffield, Reading University.
A-Level Subjects: History, Art, Physics, and Maths.
Any Societies?: Underwater Hockey and Swing Dancing
Favourite moment: Finally lying my head down to sleep and thinking: "This is home."
Worst moment: Being told that having glandular fever meant I would have to take a year out.
Study Tip: Do the Reading for your lectures and seminars. It will make essay writing and exams much easier in the long run.
Top place to visit at your Uni: Take a walk around the lake. It's not until you've truly appreciated the sheer volume of waterfowl that you realise exactky what being a York student entails.
Top Place to visit in your city: The York Cocoa House. Everything on the menu, including the savoury, has chocolate inside it. I'm slowly making my way through all of it!
Any Regrets?
Don't worry so much. It tool me a few weeks to pluck up the courage to go to the societies for the first time, and I really wish I had just thrown myself headfirst into it all.
Any other advice?
Don't let anybody else dictate to you how your university experience should be. University is a time for exploration, of discovering your own tastes. You will find the people you fit with eventually, they're pretty much definitely not going to be in your flat, so don't let that discourage you.
